Terms of sale

Last updated 23 August 2026. These terms cover what you are buying from Places We Hold, and what we owe you.

What we make

You design a map of a place that matters to you. We render it and either send you the files, or have it printed and shipped. Every piece is made to your design after you order it; nothing is taken off a shelf.

Your design is yours

You keep the rights to the words, names and dates you type. We use them only to make and deliver your order, and to answer you if you write to us. We do not sell them, and we do not put your design in front of anyone else without asking you first.

The map itself is drawn from OpenStreetMap data, which is licensed by the OpenStreetMap contributors. Your finished piece credits them.

What you may do with the files

A digital purchase is for your own use: print it, frame it, give it as a gift, as many times as you like. It is not licensed for resale or for use in another product you sell.

Getting the details right

We print exactly what you approve. Before a design goes in the cart we show you every word that will appear on it and ask you to check it. Spelling, dates and names are yours to confirm — we have no way to know that a name is misspelled, and a printed piece cannot be unprinted.

If you spot a mistake, write to hello@placeswehold.com straight away. We can change anything up until the file goes to the printer, and we will if we can. See Refunds and returns for what happens after that.

Prices and payment

Prices are in US dollars and are shown before you pay. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. We charge when you order.

When things go wrong

If a piece arrives damaged, or is not what you approved, we will replace it or refund it. That is the whole of it — see the refunds page.

Beyond that, our liability for any order is limited to what you paid for it. We cannot be responsible for a gift arriving after an occasion when the delay was with the carrier, though we will always help you chase it.
